WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE

Since the club was chartered by the International Association of Lions Clubs on April 26, 1923 as the Lions Club of Tucson, Arizona, the Tucson Downtown Lions Club (TDLC) has served the less fortunate in Tucson, the State of Arizona, the nation, and the world through its fundraising and community service projects.

The Tucson Downtown Lions Club has and continues to support many organizations in Tucson including the University of Arizona Ophthalmology Clinic, SAAVI, ASDB, Sun Sounds of Arizona, Davidson School, and others. In addition to these, the club raises funds to directly provide sight and hearing services to those unable to afford them. These include eye examinations, eyeglasses, and hearing devices.

The clubs main fundraiser is the food and beverage concessions at the Tucson Rodeo held each February. The Club also conducts an annual White Cane Fund drive to provide funds for vision services. The Tucson Downtown Lions Club is a 501.3c non-profit corporation, therefore, your donations to our clubs charities are tax deductible.

Tucson Downtown Lions Club members are service minded men and women who strive to improve our community, the state, and the world. We work without monetary compensation to raise funds and conduct projects to improve our community.

With our continuing membership growth and leadership development, we strive to remain the leader in community service in Tucson.

CURRENT CLUB NEWS

2009 White Cane Campaign - This year's White Cane Chairman, Marianne Larsen, wants to congratulate the club on another successful White Cane Campaign. Her thanks to all of the members who participated in this year's campaign. "We could not have had such a successful campaign without all of your help". Pictures of most of the participating members can be found in the picture gallery. (Click here for pictures) The funds raised by White Cane go directly to help the visually and hearing impaired in our community. This is an important fundraising event because of the funds raised for Lions charities and for the exposure that our club gets in the community. A table with a box for used eyeglasses and hearing aids was set up which yielded forty-two pair of donated eyeglasses. Lions Club Leader Dog literature was also available.

April 2, 2009 Membership Meeting - The election was held to elect officers and directors for the 2009-2010 Lions Year commencing July 1, 2009. The following Lions were elected.

March 19, 2009 Membership Meeting - Nominations for officers and directors of the Club for the Lions Year, 2009/2010 were presented to the membership by the Nominations and Elections Committee. There were several nominations from the floor. Election of officers will be held at the April 2, 2009 membership meeting.
February 21 - March 1 - RODEO Again, the Tucson Downtown Lions conducted their primary fundraising event by providing food concessions at the Fiesta de los Vaqueros (Tucson Rodeo). The Club, friends, family and volunteers from other Southern Arizona Lions Clubs manned the muliple concessions selling burgers, hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, drinks, etc. We worked the first weekend and the final four day weekend of the rodeo. A lot of hard work, fellowship and fun was experienced by all.

The Tucson Downtown Lions Club would like to thank all of the volunteers previously mentioned, for their hard work and support. WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!!!

Lions Recycle For Sight

Throughout the year, Lions, Leos, and other volunteers collect used eyeglasses for donation to Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers that are located throughout the world. The used eyeglasses are cleaned and classified by prescription. The eyeglasses are then distributed to those in need by Lion volunteers and other organizations hosting optical missions in developing countries.

The Tucson Downtown Lions Club also collects used hearing aids which are tested, repaired and supplied to those in need.
